Creative Approaches

I’m always fascinated to see how people navigate their own creative process. I recently stumbled across Michelle Wooderson’s site and was fascinated by how organized she is when completing her Project Life and her One Little Word projects. I actually loved her mapping out of Project Life so much that I am now testing our her system for myself. Already it feels easier and more comprehensive to tackle the weeks when I have the exact details noted in advance. I’ve never realized before how organization really can help you be more creative and productive. I always knew this applied to work (when my desk is clean I get so much more work done) but I never thought about applying it to creative ventures. So, thanks Michelle! I really love when creative people give us a peak into their “Behind-the-Scenes” and I hope they continue to do so.

PS Michelle – I also love your use of a typewriter for your journaling. So crisp + clean + pleasing to the eye.

CHA 2013

we r memory keepers 3x4 punch

I have seen so many pictures coming out of CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Conference that are beyond inspiring! It makes me SO eager to attend next year. I would like to make this my goal for 2013, to build up Daily Moxie to the point where I can justify going to this insider conference. One of the exciting things that I have seen coming out of the conference is the We R Memory Keepers 3×4 Punch that will beautifully complement Becky Higgins GENIUS creation, Project Life. I have written before about my love for Project Life. I’ve been doing the project for three years now and have turned my whole family onto this brilliant way of recording our lives. All the tiny, beautiful details can be perfectly captured in these simple, straight-forward binders. I will be periodically sharing my own work on Project Life. I’m using a combination of Heather Bailey’s Olive Edition and Elise Blaha’s Seafoam Edition.

I also love everything Amy Tangerine creates! Her colors are so vibrant they literally jump off the page. She is certainly inspiring!

I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks bring. I’m sure all my favorite scrapbooking ladies will be sharing their great finds from CHA. I feel that there is so much creative growth and expansion in the world of scrapbooking and design and I’m looking forward to exploring it further on Daily Moxie.

My Project Life

I could literally go on for hours about how much I love Project Life by Becky Higgins. I’ve never been a “scrapbooker.” Yes, I’m crafty. Yes, I love documenting my life, preserving my memories, reflecting on the journey I’ve been on. But layouts and color coordinating papers and stickers just never worked really well for me in my busy life. Project Life is something that I have found to be so valuable because it is so easy and intuitive. It is just structured enough to help you stay organized but still gives you the freedom to make it whatever you want. I love that it’s something that allows me to document my everyday life but also highlight the really important moments (my niece’s 10th birthday, holidays, weddings). I’ve also been able to tastefully document the not-so-bright moments in my life. It gives me a way to remember them and reflect on them in my own way. We are all on a journey and looking back over where we’ve been helps us see where we are going.

My Weekend

Nadia Knows Best by Jill Mansell

This weekend was spent mostly in recuperation. I had some minor surgery on Friday and was relatively immobile for the entire weekend. But luckily, the sun was shining and I had a nice place to sit and relax outside under a big shady tree. I did something that I never get around to doing on weekends…I read! Reading is my absolute favorite pastime but it’s ridiculous how infrequently I allow myself to do it during the day. So this weekend was pure relaxation and indulgence in my favorite thing. Luckily, I started a book that piqued my interest immediately and I found myself flying through the pages. Just pure escapism and exactly what the doctor ordered.

I’m looking forward to being back on my game because there have been so many interesting challenges that I have found online that I want to further explore. For example, Elise Blaha is doing a series on finding shapes in every day life and photographing them. I’m still doing Ali Edwards 31 Things, which started last week and of course, the ever present Project Life.

I wish I had more personal pictures to add to this post but as I said, I’m a bit out of commission. As soon as I am up and around again, I will be bringing lots of snapshots of my life to Daily Moxie. Stay tuned…

Crafting, Creating and Cards

For the past few years I have been very interested in scrapbooking as a way to journal your life and use art to depict certain moments in time. I’ve been inspired by a number of people within the industry (Ali Edwards is a genius) and I use their work as creative fuel (Becky Higgins, Elise Blaha, Elizabeth Kartchner, Ann-Marie, and Amy Tangerine). The beautiful way they capture a day, an event, a holiday, a personal success and put their own personal mark on it is so encouraging and motivating. I am currently working on Becky Higgins Project Life and will be taking part in Ali Edwards 31 Things online course starting later this week. I’m also working on Ali Edwards One Word project.

I find “Life Art”, as Ali Edwards defines it, to be therapeutic. To lose yourself for hours and be able to concentrate on nothing else but layout design, colors, graphics and mixed media is probably one of the most soothing and rewarding ways to deal with the curveballs life throws you. Right now I am finding that making cards is a great way to keep my hands moving, my brain engaged and my artistic side fully satiated. To spend an hour cutting, adhering, designing, writing and watching what started as a vision come together into a cohesive piece of art is the best mood elevator. Here are some of the cards I’ve been working on. I do it for no other reason than the wonderful feeling of accomplishment and inspiration.

For the longest time I have watched these women (Ali, Elise, Lizzy, Becky, Ann-Marie, Amy) do things that astound me and fill me with hope and excitement. I have worked alongside them, quietly, expressing myself through scrapbooking, and daily documenting and “life art.” Basically, I have made stuff. And I love what I’ve made. And I look forward to seeing what I will make. I have had this site for quite some time and haven’t really known what to do with it. I have been trying to find my footing. Suddenly, it all seems so clear. I’m not afraid to take a step forward and share the work I love with all my heart. I’m looking forward to starting the 31 Things adventure, to continuing the One Word adventure and to creating my own adventures along the way. I’m looking forward to sharing this all with you. But most importantly, I’m looking forward to having a small space to hang my work, a virtual hook.
