Elizabeth Gilbert on Marriage

Great interview with Elizabeth Gilbert over at the Seattle Post. She discusses the phenomenal popularity of Eat, Pray, Love and gives insight into her next book which I’m sure more than a few readers are eagerly anticipating!

Here’s what she had to say about her upcoming book:

I spent a year studying the institution of marriage. I wanted to think my way into an institution that I do not feel much comfort with. We’ve now been married two years.

I wouldn’t mind doing “Eat, Pray, Love II” if that’s what were on my mind, but it isn’t. The book I’ve just finished writing is what happened to me and the Brazilian guy, the romantic guy in the book. He’s been my husband for two years, my partner for four. It’s a very different thing …

Update: Here is a fantastic speech that Elizabeth Gilbert gave this month. Check it out! It is completely worth it and something you will thoroughly enjoy!

Birthdays

My birthday falls after Valentines Day, which I love because the abundance of pink, white and red decorations, clothing and gifts are still very prominent in stores. Hearts and love are everywhere and it spills over nicely into my birthday celebration.
I am head-over-heels in love with this artist/designer/blogger. Here is a photo from a birthday party she threw for her daughter. I would like her to be in charge of my party decorating!

Privileged Style

I love when I discover a fellow design enthusiast who can find and appreciate design everywhere! The blogger, Style & Grace, posted about her admiration for the design elements in the CW television show Privileged. I couldn’t agree more. There is a modern, luxurious, and enchanting theme to the bedroom shared by the main characters, twin sisters Sage & Rose.

The contrasting colors of bright pinks, fuchsias and lime green mixed with earthy, natural colors and bright whites really works and creates a visually pleasing decor. Love it! (Now let’s just hope the show doesn’t get canceled…because it is ADORABLE!)

By the Sea…

Having grown up across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, I am always drawn to beautiful homes overlooking the water. Maybe it’s because I’m a Pisces or maybe it’s all the wonderful memories I have that include the beach and swimming, but I will always live near the water. I found these images on Rare and Beautiful Treasures site. They are from Hutker Architects, Inc.

Tooth Fairy Kit

I am in love with this Tooth Fairy Kit! This is a great way to document your children’s lost teeth while helping them build memories of significant childhood experiences.

I have to extend a thank you to Ali Edwards for bringing it to my attention!

Valentine’s Day

Do you remember the excitement on Valentines Day in elementary school? The entire day revolved around creating decorative bags or shoe boxes to prepare for the onslaught of cards from every member of our class. There was no picking and choosing, everyone gave a card to everyone else. Sure, some of us would read into the messages selected by certain members of the class. If a boy selected a card for me with Garfield saying, “You have my heart,” I took it as his professing his true love for me. Maybe it was the only way he could really tell me what was on his mind? Maybe deep in his heart a passionate and enduring flame burned for me? Or maybe that’s the card he grabbed haphazardly out of the box it came in, with the class list written out in his mother’s neat penmanship, as he scrawled a To: and From: before moving on to the next person in class?

Either way, this year, I think I’m going to get crafty for Valentines Day! Because honestly, what’s better than a handmade card?

Grumpy!

I googled the word “Grumpy” and this came up. Nothing could better express the way I am feeling today then this grumpy puppy. I don’t know if it’s the economy or the weather (freezing here in New Englad) or just the fact that it’s Monday…but everyone is in a foul mood! But seriously, doesn’t Mr. Grumpy Pup just look really pissed off? But still cute…and lovable…very much like me! :)

Multitasking

I am all about multitasking! Baby oil makes a great shaving cream. Cream blush can be used on your lips. And vaseline can be used for just about anything. Well, the people at Bliss have obviously tapped into the consumer’s need for multi-use products and have created Problem-Salved. A 20 in 1 wonderbalm!   Problem Salved promises a quick fix for chapping, chafing, unruly eyebrows, and other unsightly instances that might catch you off guard. The ultra-emollient stick is loaded with mango butter, kukui nut oil, and tea tree oil and also comes in handy for straightening an over-zealous eyeliner job, blending away bits of wandering mascara, and preventing blisters when you wear uncomfortable shoes that have been known to cause blisters.

Kate Winslet: Hollywood’s Hot Ticket

We know Kate Winslet has undergone a bit of transformation since her TITANIC days, and yet we still really, really like her! She has TWO award-ready movies coming out this month, THE READER and REVOLUTIONARY ROAD. Both are getting major Oscar buzz and it looks like Ms. Winslet is Red Carpet Ready. When she was interviewed by Good Housekeeping and asked if she had any beauty secrets, she replied:

Oh God, not really. I always take my makeup off before bed, always. Even if I’m completely exhausted. And I do make the effort to put on a little makeup in the mornings. But I’m not a huge makeup person; I don’t know how to do eyeshadow. I’m not very good with that.

At Daily Moxie, we pride ourselves on getting to the bottom of the celebrity beauty routine, so we uncovered one secret from Winslet. She adores products by Tracie Martyn. She uses the Amla Purifying Cleanser and Firming Serum.

Here are some photos of Ms. Winslet on the set of Revolutionary Road, which re-teams her with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. The emotional drama looks like a movie not to be missed! Daily Moxie will be first in line when the movie opens, December 26th.

Side Note: Kate also adores ANTHROPOLOGIE. One of our favorite stops for authentic products and eclectic design. Here is what she recently said about Anthropologie.

I can spend hours in Anthropologie. I’ll go in for a top and come out with a sofa.

Cupcakes and Makeup…in ONE!

How adorable are these cupcakes!! I found them over at BellaSugar. They are made by Miami-based Dots Treats! Psychologically, I would probably have a problem biting into these because I would have flashbacks to my three-year old self who maybe took a bite of lipstick…once…maybe…I’m not confirming anything. Although I think I was just expressing my love for the beauty industry at an early age.

Jennifer Aniston in GQ

Yes, she has great skin and I would love to know what products she uses to keep her complexion so FLAWLESS. But does she really have to show off so much of it?? Isn’t this a little bit too close to pornography? I feel badly even putting it on my blog…and I may just take it down because it’s making me BLUSH!

The Boston Herald has an article about Jennifer Aniston’s recent appearance in GQ. Here is the link to the full piece, but just to give you an idea of the reporters angle, here is a quote from the article.

What is it with this relentless notion that if a middle-aged celebrity can somehow defy gravity, it’s a crime not to prove it? Who said in order to be OK with yourself, you’ve got to pose with nothing but a spray tan?

You know what I’d like to see? Men acting this way when they’re dumped – like ex-Mr. Madonna Guy Ritchie on the cover of Vogue wearing nothing but a cone bra, complaining about how uncool A-Rod is.

The reporter also goes on to compare Aniston to Glen Close’s character in Fatal Attraction…yikes!

But seriously. I think Jennifer displayed her beauty in a much more glamorous way in Vogue. Can’t she stick with this look? I would think men would find this way sexier. What’s with all the nudity Jen? Here’s a side-by side comparison, guess which one is for GQ?

Jolie Nadine Holiday Giveaway

Nadine Haobsh, the girl who I feel really got the whole Beauty Blogging Ball rolling, is hosting a giveaway over at her site. She has partnered with Proactiv and is giving away 20 3-Step Systems. I have tried the Proactiv System and I love it. I think it really works to get rid of breakouts and prevent new ones. So head over to Jolie Nadine and sign up for the contest. It ends Friday night.

And if you are looking for a gift for your sister or best friend, her book Beauty Confidential is GREAT!! I’ve read it twice because it is so packed with information, I was afraid I missed things on my first read. Keep a pen and a piece of paper nearby because you will be jotting down product names and tips like crazy!

Bridget Moynihan’s Beauty Secrets

{image courtesy of Getty Images}

Because there are rumors that the Brady Bundchen are ring shopping, I thought I would give a little love to the gorgeous Bridget Moynihan. This woman is seriously stunning and even when she was the girl who stole Big from Carrie, we still couldn’t help but like her.

I have always had an obsession with what celebrities use to keep their skin camera ready. Why wouldn’t you want to know what the people who have access to the best of the best in the world of beauty, use on a daily basis?!?

Here is what Bridget reported to InStyle Magazine.

I was getting sort of dry skin, so I went to a spa and they recommended the Darphin product line. I got the face wash, the cleansing milk, the cream and the toner, and my whole face cleared up.

A few of the other products Bridget found in her makeup bag were:

Bobbi Brown Blush Brush

Cle de Peau Beaute Eyebrow and Eyeliner Compact No. 1

Sage Roll-On Perfume in Onyx

Shu Uemura Glow On in Peach

C.O. Bigelow My Favorite Lip Balm in No. 303

Stila Perfecting Concealer in Shade D

Seasons Greetings

Just found out that this is the holiday card Lancome sent out last year. How much do you LOVE it!?! This is what I want for my holiday card!!! It is illustrated by Hilary Knight (of Eloise fame).

Clinique Holiday Makeup

The other night I was in a rush to prepare for a holiday event. Thankfully I had purchased this Clinique “Impactful Eye” kit at my local Clinique counter. It was the perfect solution! Just enough eye makeup to create a clean, sharp look (and even the remover to take it all off in one swipe at the end of the night). Here is what the “kit” contains:

High Impact Mascara in Black, .28 oz.8 g
Dual-ended Cream Shaper for Eyes in Cocoa Shimmer/Mink, .02 oz./.5 g each
Take the Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips, 1.7 oz./50 ml

Yes, I sound like a commercial, but I have always been a fan of Clinique’s makeup. Maybe it’s their use of the word “Almost” in so many of their products that makes you feel like you aren’t really committing to FULL makeup? The first piece of makeup I ever bought was their Almost Lipstick in Black Honey and I still use it today! I swear this color looks good on EVERYONE!

Shiny Hair

I have long dark brown hair and I love wearing black and brown. This poses a problem when I find my hair disappearing into my outfit or the background.

Jennifer Connelly has a similar situation. Thanks to Allure’s Daily Beauty Reporter, Jessica Matlin, I found these helpful tips for making dark hair appear shinier.

Caught in the flashbulbs outside of Letterman’s studio, Jennifer Connelly’s hair looked so glossy, I swear I saw a tourist’s reflection in it.

Want your hair looking as insanely shiny (and healthy) as Jennifer’s? Invest in a good spray. When used with restraint–specifically, sprayed only on the bottom half your hair and then combed through–these three will give you the shine, without the grease.

Bumble and bumble Shine. If you think the gold packaging is blingy, just wait till you see your hair. $34.

Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine Hair Spray. A product that adds shine and hold and isn?t a waxy mess? It?s possible. And cheap. $4.49.

Frederic Fekkai Spray On Hair Crystals. Want the hard stuff? Try this aerosol mist swirling with diamond and pearl particles in either Bronze, Copper, or Champage (your choice). $18.50.

Use one of these, and don’t be surprised if the woman on the subway starts looking in your hair to apply her lipstick.

Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown counters all over the country are offering free holiday makeup lessons.

Print this out and bring it with you, or just show up at any Bobbi Brown counter and they’ll add a little sparkle to your holiday look.

Beauty Post

I am obsessed with beauty products. I have tried blogging about them in the past, but I find that if I spread myself too thin blog-wise, everything suffers. So I am going to bring my clean little secret (get it? clean instead of dirty little secret…because I’m talking about skin cleansers…forget it!) out into my Daily Moxie posts.

Phew! I feel better already.

Ok, here are a few things I am loving.

Nars Orgasm blush. Looks good on everyone! Seriously! I tend to blush very easily and typically don’t even like to apply blush, but this one has just enough peachy-pink tones in it and a little bit of sparkle to work with any complexion!

I bought a number of Chanel products a few months ago and I can’t tell you how glamorous and decadent I felt using these products! The name just says it all…and they smell great too!

Speaking of luxury, is there a woman alive who doesn’t desire the La Mer products? Is it the exorbitant price tag? The knowledge that some of the most successful women in the world adore these products? I’m not sure what it is, but I do know that there is something very exciting in seeing these pale green products adorning my sink.

Ah Kiehls, how you seduce me with your free samples. I have always loved you and have never found my cabinets to be lacking in housing your products. At any given time I will have at least three Kiehls products in circulation.

Basically I want to know what to use to make my skin look as flawless as Joanna Garcia’s. (She is the actress who plays Megan on the CW’s Privileged…a show that I feel guilty about ADORING!)

Pink Christmas Cards

I think PINK is completely unappreciated during the holidays!

You can find these ADORABLE cards at Katie Sue Crafts.
